Why 300 series stainless steel square pipe known as aerospace pipe?
Aerospace is an industry that has components that operate under high pressure, high temperature and under high wear and tear conditions. There are components in the aerospace that have to be stronger than construction material. Sudden changes of momentum in aerospace applications such as airplane wing panels, platforms, pipes and hydraulics require parts be built from high wear and tear, high strength and high corrosion resistant materials.
The 300 series of Stainless Box Section is a category with 18-30 of chromium in the composition. These are called Austenitic Stainless Steel Square Tube. The variation in chromium, nickel and other components along with the production process and heat treatment can bring them high mechanical properties. The square shaped pipe in particular adds to the structural strength. It does not bend or alter shape as easy as the round pipes.
When square pipes are used, the joints, bends and twists are stronger than that of the round pipes. Some of the variations of the 300 series can work above 1500 degrees Celsius with minimum tensile strength above 500MPa. These properties make the 300 series SS Square Tube be used in and known as the aerospace pipes.
